BLOG Week 2 - Midnight Book Review (Christmas Gift)
Wassup ladies..wassup fellas!
Christmas is FAST approaching..hope you'll be having a good time with your loved ones. I want to take time out to shout out one of the best and realest black authors/writers I came across: Sister Souljah. The first time I came across her work was attending Dawson College. A friend of mine gave me her book to read: The Coldest Winter Ever. I read the whole book in 2-3 days it was so damn good. I've always been into books, but I never read a 200+ page book that fast. I got a chance to read more urban books by different authors over the years, but they have never been as good as Sister Souljah's 2 books. Around October, I picked up her latest work: Midnight. Easily one of the best books I've read since high school. There's alot of pages to read through, but a must read for any young black male or female. I give it a 9 on 10 easy. It was interesting seeing life through the eyes of a young kid from Africa, now living in the mean streets of Brooklyn. His narration depicting the many differences between our North American morals and his African Muslim beliefs was fresh and never seen before. This book holds a mirror to our faces and forces us to examine ourselves as it unfolds. I don't want to say too much and spoil it for those that wish to pick it up. Midnight is my book of 2009, and It's a great gift for the holidays.. Leave Comment: |
